In-patient treatment and rehabilitation.
The tendon treatment offered operates primarily as an in-patient based treatment centre. Horses stay for an average of ten to twelve weeks. Initially the horse undergoes a thorough biomechanical, clinical and ultrasound assessment so a full an accurate diagnosis and prognosis may be made. A tailored treatment and rehabilitation programme is then applied for a minimum of ten weeks. The treatment applied significantly speeds up the rate of healing in the tendon by stimulating cells to produce greater amounts of new tendon tissue. This tissue then has to be remodeled to form a structurally coherent entity. Stress is placed through the tendon using an appropriately structured exercise regime which is crucial to ensure a good quality repair is achieved.
